what:
The field of live audio visual media, as known as 'realtime media' - have seen a blooming development. An increasing number of artists are exploring non-linear narratives and interactivity as methods for new possibilities of expression. There are potentials of this medium is experimenting with implementing it into dance, theater, music and political events. There are video artists who sample and create original material for performance. The latter are migrating away from traditional dance/performance venues and into more focused art events that promote conceptual interactive multimedia performances as an end to themselves.
The varied approaches to live visual manipulation reflect the diversity of individual artists practicing the art. Styles range from highly technical and refined to easy, lower fidelity as performers utilize tools ranging from game consoles and laptops to complicated miniature theaters to cast their projections. Despite that variability, a certain collective lexicon of imagery, themes, and technique has emerged.
